iPhone Mail signature: why logos vanish and what to do

iPhone Mail accepts only text in its signature, so a pasted logo often disappears. Set one text signature per account on the phone; add logos in Mail on a Mac.

Mail on iPhone and iPad accepts only text in its signature box. Apple says so in its iPhone User Guide. A logo pasted into that box can disappear or show up as a blank box, which is what users report in Apple Community threads. Set a plain text signature on the phone, one per account, and put the logo version in Mail on a Mac.

What Apple says about iPhone Mail signatures

Apple's iPhone User Guide, in the section on changing Mail settings, has one sentence that answers most of this: “You can only use text in your Mail signatures.” The phone steps below come from that page.

How do I set a text signature on iPhone?

  1. Open the Settings app and tap Apps, then tap Mail.
  2. Tap Signature, which sits below Composing.
  3. Tap the text field and type or edit your signature.
  4. If you have more than one email account, tap Per Account and give each account its own signature.

Send a test message to a second address you own. Check it on the phone and on a computer.

What goes in a text-only signature?

Keep it to what a reader needs to act on: your name, role, phone number, company and website. Type the web address in full. Leave out logos, banners and social icons, because the field does not keep them.

Why did my logo disappear?

Apple Community has several threads about this. “iPhone email signature image not showing” started in October 2019 after iOS 13 and has more than 300 replies. Users describe a logo that shows as a blank box while the text comes through. A thread from October 2021 about iOS 15.1 covers a different symptom: a second account kept showing the default account's signature. Its replies point to Per Account as the setting to check.

These are user reports from 2019 to 2021, not Apple documentation. We did not find an Apple statement that iPhone Mail now accepts images. Assume it does not, and test any workaround.

Where can I add a logo?

Use Mail on a Mac. Apple's Mail guide says you can “enter the text of your signature, change formatting, add images, and preview how your signature looks.” To add an image, drag it into the signature column in Mail settings.

Signatures set on one Mac reach your other Macs when iCloud Drive is on and Mail is selected in its options. That covers Macs only, so set the iPhone signature again there.

Web Mail does not help either. Apple's iCloud.com guide describes the signature there as a plain text signature.

Troubleshooting

If a pasted logo shows in the settings screen but turns into a blank box in new messages, you are not alone. Some threads report exactly that. Others describe pasting the signature and then shaking the phone to undo the style change. Those are user reports, not Apple guidance, and they may not work on current iOS. Send a test to a second address before you rely on either.

If the wrong signature appears on one account, go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Signature and tap Per Account. Set each account separately, then send a test from each.

How Sendoff handles this

Sendoff does not make a separate iPhone version. The Copy button puts both an HTML version and a plain text version on your clipboard, but the iPhone signature box keeps text only, so the layout, logo and icons from the generator will not carry over. For the phone, type the text version yourself. For a Mac, follow the Apple Mail install guide and paste the full signature from the free email signature generator.
